APPLE’S NOW ACCEPTING SWIFT-CODED IOS APPS FOR THE APP STORE

Following Apple’s event in Cupertino together with the launch iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, the latest status of its Swift programming language- the GM status was also announced.

Back in June, Apple announced Swift, a new programming language for iOS and OS X, and the reaction in the developer community was generally positive. Swift, is now considered a GM build and Swift-coded iOS apps are being accepted in the App Store.

The tech giant says, You can now submit your apps that use Swift to the App Store. Whether your app uses Swift for a small feature or a complete application, now is the time to share your app with the world. It’s your turn to excite everyone with your new creations.”

Swift is a new programming language for iOS and OS X apps that builds on the best of C and Objective-C, without the constraints of C compatibility.  Swift is an innovative new programming language for Cocoa and Cocoa Touch. Writing code with Swift is interactive and fun, the syntax is concise yet expressive, and apps run lightning-fast.

The tech giant states that while Wednesday is the GM date for Swift on iOS, the language will hit GM status for Mac when Yosemite ships later this fall, due to Swift for OS X’s SDK OS X Yosemite requirement. Until this point, developers can download the beta of Xcode 6.1.

Apple adds this is not the ultimate version of the programming language, as the company plans to perk up the performance of the code, refine syntax and add new features. The company also says developers can expect a few improvements in Xcode 6.1 before the launch of Yosemite.

In its official blog company stated, You’ll notice we’re using the word “GM”, not “final”. That’s because Swift will continue to advance with new features, improved performance, and refined syntax. In fact, you can expect a few improvements to come in Xcode 6.1 in time for the Yosemite launch. Because your apps today embed a version of the Swift GM runtime, they will continue to run well into the future.”
