On September 14, Nintendo’s board of directors voted in a new president, Tatsumi Kimishima, as the company is undergoing its greatest transition.
This change has been the result of a long series of struggles by Nintendo to keep up with its competitors. In the current market, sticking to making family-friendly console games simply doesn’t seem to work any more for the company. Thus, it has decided to transition to making mobile games in order to remain competitive.
The company has announced the creation of five games by early 2017, but has not specified what those games would be. In addition, Nintendo has also stated that despite the small amount of games, it seeks to “make each title a hit”.
The new CEO of Nintendo of America-turned Nintendo president is expected to oversee this dramatic change in the company and keep Nintendo stable while doing so. It would be very interesting to watch the company’s transition over the next year and a half, especially since this is the same company that has made many of our favorite games as children, like Mario, Sonic, and Pokemon.
