Pune-based Swipe Telecom has launched a new smartphone designed specifically for kids, the Swipe Junior for kids in the age group of 5-15 years. The handset comes with parental control features and is now available to buy via various e-commerce websites at RS. 5,999.
The company made the announcement via Twitter and it claims that the Swipe Junior is the first smartphone for kids and comes with customized UI for kids including features such as geo-tracking and geo-fencing to track a child’s movement.
The Swipe Junior smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch IPS display and is driven by a 1.3GHz dual-core processor. It bears 512MB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt storage.
The handset runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and supports 3G connectivity with a single SIM card slot. There is a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. The smartphone packs a 1900mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 8 hours of talk time and 120 hours of standby time.
Connectivity options on Swipe Junior smartphone include Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Micro-USB.
The company had announced in August that it will invest about $ 3-4 million (Rs 20-25 crore) to set up a manufacturing facility in Maharashtra for assembling handsets and tablets in India.
