As of late, rumors have been circling around that Google is looking at bringing augmented reality support to its camera app. This will leverage some technology from Google Goggles to deliver relevant search results to mobile devices.
Google Goggles is currently an Android feature that allows users to search up a picture and obtain relatively accurate results about what that picture is of within seconds. However, one drawback is that these images cannot be cropped to only one object image. That’s when this possible integration comes in; if it happens, it will allow users to outline specific areas of the image in order to directly target searches.
Reports indicate that “this technology has also been tested in ‘wearable computing devices.’ This could suggest this technology may come to products like Google Glass and possibly even VR (or AR) headsets.”
If the rumors prove to be true, it is very likely that Google will choose to integrate its technology with existing tools in order for a more seamless search experience.
