Leica’s newest and strangest product is its instant camera, Sofort. Costing at around $300, it fittingly resembles the Instagram logo. It contains an assortment of different modes, including “self-portrait,” which allows users to take a selfie the old-fashioned way. A self-timer gets triggered while the user can use a mirror in the front to perfect their look for the picture. Other modes include Macro, Action and People & Party.
The camera also includes a number of auto features and a manual override; these adjust things like focus and brightness. Sofort also uses special, Leica-branded film for both colored and black and white photos. These can also feature customizable frames as a throwback to more classic films from Polaroid.
In an age of smartphone photographers, it is pretty surprising that old-fashioned cameras are still being produced and built upon; however, it just might show that these type of antique things, like the vinyl record, are striking a chord with the new generations.
