China has just released an approved list of 185 green energy vehicles to receive government subsidies.
China’s pollution is still an ever-present problem, especially in the Eastern parts of the country, and China’s current five-year plan seeks to expand its renewable energy sector. Beijing has already spent billions promoting electric and hybrid cars in an effort to boost the domestic auto industry.
However, discovery of widespread cheating in the government subsidy program in the latter half of 2016 prompted the government to crack down, increasing oversight and raising application and testing requirements. Thus, all companies that have applied for subsidies in the past had to reapply this year.
Car companies set to receive subsidies include Chinese auto companies BIAC Motor Corp, Geely Automobile Holdings, BYD Co, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co, and Chery Automobile Co.
